Manufacturing Process
6 stages from raw material mixing to shipping — about 15 days total
Making a ceramic ball is not simply a matter of pressing powder into shape. The mixing ratio of raw materials, together with the firing temperature and duration, entirely determines the strength, porosity, and functional properties of the finished ball. Kum Yang carries out every stage, from mixing to shipping, in-house at our own factory.
Raw Material Blending
- Materials are ground and blended in precise ratios tailored to each product's characteristics.
- Two large mixers separate white-toned and colored materials for mixing, matched to the physical properties of each raw material.
- Water-purification and therapeutic/acupressure lines are blended separately.
Seeding and Forming
Seeding 4-5 days + Forming 5-7 days- Seeding — the foundational step for every ceramic ball, where powder first begins taking on a spherical structure. It becomes the seed for every finished product.
- Forming — blended raw material is fed onto the seed in a specially built forming machine, growing it to the target size.
Drying the Formed Product
2-3 days- Before entering the kiln, formed products are fully dried in a drying room to remove all remaining moisture.
Loading and Firing
3 days- Loading — dried products are loaded onto kiln carts for firing.
- Firing — a heat treatment that gives the formed product its mechanical strength and special properties. Temperatures vary somewhat by product but generally fall between 950°C and 1,200°C.
Unloading and Inspection
2 days- Unloading — the fired product is allowed to cool fully before being unloaded.
- Inspection — in-house inspection of appearance and physical properties. When needed, samples are sent to outside testing agencies for composition and performance testing.
Packaging and Shipping
1 day- Packaging — standard packaging is a plain 25 kg bag, with pallet packaging for orders of 500 kg or more. Specific bags or carton boxes are used on request, and export-grade boxes and pallets are used for international shipments.
- Shipping — products ship on a delivered basis, arranged to match each customer's requirements.
Total Lead Time
A new order takes about 15 days (seeding 4-5 days + forming 5-7 days + drying 2-3 days + firing 3 days + inspection 2 days + packaging 1 day). Items in stock can ship immediately; large-volume production requires separate arrangement.
